Becoming Cyborg was a 5-session class on technological embodiment. It took place at Prospect Park in the sticky, firefly-filled evenings of June & July 2025.

Today is a beautiful day. The Earth forecast is stormy and there is a category 7 hurricane watch, but it's nothing out of the ordinary: this is expected when a new energy metropolis comes online. It signals that we are taking a civilization-sized step forward - and this doesn't happen every day.

I have been selected to be a resident in NYC_12o, the latest creation from the Commission for World Building. Technologically, they say that it is what we have been waiting for: full human-technology synthesis. The environment renders perfectly — grass, glass, water, skin — all indistinguishable from organic memory. It's beautiful.

NYC_12o will have the highest density of high throughput thinkers that has ever been coalesced. These Cyborgians have been responsible for humanity's most transformative discoveries, and neural chip implantation means they have infinite memory storage and their brains operate at 10x baseline speed.

The human world above my Simulation Bunker has been free of disease for years and we no longer fear running out of energy with the invention of mass-producible fission generators. I'm not sure exactly what our mission will be, but we'll learn about that on Monday when we deploy.

My role is Experience Coordinator: ensuring that our thinkers are operating at peak efficacy at all times. I had to liquidate my memory bank to eliminate my biases from infiltrating the world, so you will have to excuse the lack of background on myself and what I have been up to previously. But, after a year, I'll be able to start retaining most of my memories again, and yes, New York City still has the highest (memory) tax rates, even in the eWorld.

I hope to return to a world without fear, without hunger, without pain, without imperfection, without uncertainty... I have no doubt we will be successful in our efforts. Signing off for now.
